Conference “Tunisian International Observation Mission: Women Working Towards Democracy” & Interactive Dialogue.

Donderdag 13 november 2014 15:00-16:30 | Room JAN 6Q1 - European Parliament - Brussels
Conference “Tunisian International Observation Mission: Women Working Towards Democracy” & Interactive Dialogue.

It is with great pleasure that Mariya Gabriel, MEP, and the Global Network for Rights and Development (GNRD) invite you to the conference “Tunisian International Observation Mission: Women Working Towards Democracy” & Interactive Dialogue.

One of the most important keys to the success of Tunisia’s democratic transition is the equal participation of women in the transitional process. For Tunisia’s elections to be truly free and fair, women must have the same freedoms to take part in all aspects of the electoral process. GNRD, as an international observer to the Tunisia’s Parliamentary and Presidential elections, includes a special delegation that analyses women’s engagement in the elections, the available opportunities for women to participate in political parties, and their ability to serve within local and national election management bodies.

This conference will explore the international observers’ preliminary findings and recommendations, with a special focus on women’s participation in the elections as an integral component to a successful Tunisian democratic transition. Attendees and speakers will include MEPs, UN and NGO representatives, civil society leaders, human rights defenders and other interested parties.

Invited Speakers:
• MEP Mariya GABRIEL, Vice-President of the EPP Group
• Mr. Ala ABU DAKKA, Deputy Director of GNRD Brussels
