Screening of ‘Second Breath’ in solidarity with all Iranian women (Amazone, Art Cantara & Elles Tournent)

In response to the heartbreaking events unfolding in Iran, Amazone is organising a special evening to honour the courage and resilience of Iranian women in their struggle for freedom and equal rights. In collaboration with Elles Tournent and Art Cantara, we warmly invite you on Thursday 26 February to the Amazone House for a screening of Second Breath, a documentary by Iranian filmmaker and women’s rights activist Mojgan Ilanlou.

The documentary revisits a pivotal moment in recent Iranian history, when politicians and those in power sought to dissuade women from claiming their right to equality through vague and deceptive promises. The Second Breath tells the powerful and inspiring story of women who refused to remain silent, stood up to tyrannical leadership, rejected the compulsory wearing of the hijab, and in doing so ignited one of the most influential women’s movements in Iran.

Mojgan Ilanlou, who holds a degree in the history of religions, began her career as a researcher and writer before working as a radio presenter. Since directing her first documentary in 2005, she has made several films and has remained deeply committed to advancing women’s rights, notably through Des milliers de femmes. She firmly believes in the power of documentary filmmaking to challenge entrenched beliefs, reshape traditions, and inspire social change.

The screening will be followed by a discussion with Iranian women’s rights activist Fariba Amirkhizi, focusing on the director’s work and the current situation of women in Iran.
