International Women’s Day 2026: This is what’s happening in Belgium

Sunday the 8th of March is International Women’s Day. Across the world, this day is marked by events and initiatives highlighting gender inequalities and promoting women’s rights. In Belgium, a range of marches, debates, cultural activities and workshops are planned. Looking for something to do? Here’s a guide to what’s happening throughout the country.

Brussels-Capital Region

  

World March of Women Belgium (FR/NL/EN)

The annual women’s march in Brussels is organized by Wereldvrouwenmars België and starts on the 8th of March at 2:00 PM at Place de l’Albertine, near Brussels-Central Station. The march highlights women’s rights and gender equality. For early birds, there is a feminist village at the starting location from 11:00 AM onwards.. After the march, the day is festively closed with a concert.

Collecti.e.f 8 mars Brussels  (FR/ NL/ EN)

A pre-demonstration will take place on March 8th from 12:30 PM to 2:00 PM at Brussels-Central Station. The program includes speeches, slam performances, a flash mob, multiple choir performances and a brass band. AWSA asbl (FR/NL)
On Sunday, March 8th, AWSA asbl is organising an event celebrating the resilience and activism of women. Participants will be able to take part in creative workshops and enjoy an activist concert by Chorale Zamâan AWSA, featuring music from the Arab world with messages of freedom, women’s rights, and solidarity. The event will conclude with a collective walk to the Mont des Arts for the start of the women’s march at 2.00PM. The event is free and open to all. Amazone asbl (FR/ NL/ EN)

On Thursday, March 5th at 6 PM, Amazone asbl  is hosting a sign-making workshop at Amazone House.

Rebelle vzw (NL)

In preparation for the women’s march, Rebelle vzw invites you to a free protest sign-making workshop in Schaerbeek on March 7th at 1 pm. Before the workshop, historian Mathilde Sonnet will give a talk on feminist resistance. During the session, you will have the chance to express yourself on gender equality and inequality, as well as equal opportunities for development. Who knows, you might even be inspired to create your own slogan! BRONKS (FR/NL/EN)

There are also activities planned for children during the week of March 8th. BRONKS is organizing a preparatory workshop in Brussels on the 7th of March from 2 pm to 5 pm and on the 8th of March from 10 am to 1 pm. At the workshop, children will have the chance to make their own protest signs for the march. The session is completely free, but you need to register in advance. RoSa and BRONKS (NL)

For young people aged 12 and over, RoSa is organising a round-table discussion on youth and consent. The session will take place at BRONKS on March 7th from 6 pm to 7.30 pm. Speakers from diverse backgrounds will lead the discussion. Le Monde Selon Les Femmes (FR)

Le Monde Selon Les Femmes is also organising a DIY creative afternoon in Brussels on March 5th at 5 pm. You will be able to work on slogans and banners, as well as take part in activities like linocut printing and making pins and stamps. The evening will finish with a drink at 9 pm to toast solidarity.

Musical Instruments Museum MIM (NL)

The MIM is hosting a free Wikipedia writing session on the 8th of March, from 1 pm to 5 pm, to mark International Women’s Day. The session, open to students and adults, will focus on making women who have played important roles in music and heritage more visible on Wikipedia, as they remain underrepresented. An experienced Wikipedia editor will guide participants in creating or updating articles, providing support on sources, templates and practical tips. No prior writing experience is required! Participants should bring their own laptops and create a Wikipedia account in advance. Amazone asbl – Saint-Josse Municipality (FR/NL)

SIMA vzw, the Equal Opportunities Service, and various local partners invite you to the 12th edition of the Gender Weeks of Sint-Joost from March 4 to 20. Creative and/or participatory workshops, activities, and a film club: the program is particularly rich! The opening will take place on Wednesday, March 4 at 10 a.m., under the theme “Women in Sint-Joost, driving forces of change.” The closing evening on March 20 will be accompanied by music, featuring a concert by the Cassandra Choir, the committed amateur choir of La Monnaie. Les Femmes de Mars 2026 Charleroi (FR)

The 11ᵗʰ edition of Les Femmes de Mars runs from February 23 to 27 2026, filling Charleroi with a month of events across the city. The programme features a wide range of activities. Cycloparade 2026 Liège (FR)

The ninth annual feminist Cycloparade in Liège will take place on March 8th at 1 pm, organised by Collectives et Ardentes. Each year has a theme, this year the event is focussed on “Des Résistances”. Oxfam Waterloo (FR)

Oxfam is hosting an event on the 8th of March featuring around twenty portraits of women in the fair trade sector. The day starts at 10 am with breakfast, followed by a guided tour of the exhibition. Collecti.e.f 8 March Namur (FR)

This year, Collecti.e.f 8 March Namur is hosting a gathering in the city centre to mark International Women’s Day and celebrate gender diversity. The event starts at 2 pm in front of the new Palais de Justice, Place des Arts, and will end with a festive concert by Friday Frida at the Cultural Centre. Cercle Féministe Liège and Jeunesse Organisée & Combative (FR)

Collecti.e.f 8 March (NL)

For the 8th of March, Collecti.e.f 8 March is organising feminist marches in several cities, including Antwerp, Ghent, Hasselt, Kortrijk and Leuven. The marches offer an opportunity to come together in support of women’s rights and gender equality. Buda (NL/EN)

Buda cinelma Kortrijk will project the documentary The Day Iceland Stood Still on the 6th and 8th of March. The film, in English with Dutch subtitles, tells how nearly all women in Iceland went on strike for a single day in 1975, and how that day became a turning point for gender equality. Vrouwen in Kunst en Geschiedenis (NL)

On March 6th, Vrouwen des Huizes launches a historical podcast highlighting the role and influence of noblewomen in the Habsburg Netherlands. The launch will be marked by a roundtable discussion in Leuven from 2 pm to 4.30 pm, exploring how women and men shaped the world in the past. The event is free, but registration is required.
