Despite progress in disability rights, persons with disabilities in Europe continue to face social prejudice, inaccessible infrastructure,
and unsupportive attitudes. Mothers with disabilities remain among the most underrepresented and marginalised groups in
policymaking, research, and healthcare practice. The United Nations has recently recognised maternity as a ground for
discrimination; as a result, mothers with disabilities experience double discrimination.
The project ASSIST – heAlthcare incluSion of motherS wIth diSabiliTy, cofinanced by the European Union and led by Make Mothers
Matter , in cooperation with several European partner organisations, aims to enhance the quality and accessibility of maternal
healthcare services for mothers with disabilities.
